1966年、ロンドンのインディカ画廊で、オノ・ヨーコが発表した作品 "Ceiling Painting" は、部屋の中央に置いてある梯子を観客が昇って天井を虫眼鏡で覗くと小さな文字で「YES」と書いてあるものでした。 これを見たジョン・レノンが、「その言葉がNOであったら失望したが、YESとあったので救われた」と述べたことは有名なエピソードとして知られています。 本展のタイトル「YES」に込められているのは、肯定的にものごとをとらえてゆくオノ・ヨーコの作品や活動を象徴するものです。
